Cecilia Molinari, Airam Hernández, Zarina Abaeva & Anna Stephany Highlight Teatro Nacional de São Carlos’ 2021 Fall Performances

Portugal’s Teatro Nacional de São Carlos has announced the schedule until January 2022. Here is a look at operatic and vocal performances.

Operas

The season opens with concert performances of Tchaikovsky‘s “Iolanta.” The opera spotlights Misha Didyk, Evgeny Stavinsky, Guriy Guryev, and Zarina Abaeva in the title role. Graeme Jenkins conducts.

Performance Dates: Sep. 29 – Oct. 3, 2021

Next up is Mario Pontiggia’s semi-staged production of Georg Friedrich Händel‘s opera “Ariodante.” Antonio Florio conducts Yury Minenko, Ana Quintans, and Cecilia Molinari in the title role.

Performance Dates: Nov. 2 – 4, 2021

Anna Stephany portrays Sesto, Susana Gaspar takes on Vitellia, and Airam Hernández stars in the title role in concert performances of Mozart‘s “La Clemenza di Tito.” Antonio Pirolli conducts.

Performance Dates: Dec. 9 – 13, 2021

Concerts

Mezzo-soprano Maria Luísa de Freitas presents works by Ottorino Respighi and Johannes Brahms alongside conductor Antonio Pirolli and Coro do Teatro Nacional de São Carlos. Giampaolo Vessella is the Chorus Master.

Performance Date: Oct. 9, 2021

Sopranos Dora Rodrigues and Carla Caramujo, mezzo-soprano Cátia Moreso, tenor Luís Gomes, baritone Luís Rodrigues and bass João Oliveira perform music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Gaetano Donizetti, Jules Massenet, Pietro Mascagni, and Alfredo Keil alongside conductor Antonio Pirolli and Coro do Teatro Nacional de São Carlos.
