Cecilia Bartoli, Vivica Genaux, Javier Camarena Among Stars of Salzburg Whitsun Festival 2020

The Salzburg Whitsun Festival has announced its 2020 season, which will place a special focus on Pauline Viardot-Garcia.

Opera

The season kicks of with “Don Pasquale,” which will star Cecilia Bartoli, Peter Kálmán, Nicola Alaimo, and Javier Camarena. Les Musiciens du Prince-Monaco will be conducted by Gianluca Capuano.

Performance Date: May 29, June 1, 2020

Gluck’s “Orphée” will be performed with a cast that includes Marianne Crebassa, Andriana Chuchman, Anna Laudere, Edvin Revazov, and Marie-Sophie Pollak.

Concerts

Cecilia Bartoli and Varduhi Abrahamyan will star in a concert of arias by Rossini, Meyerbeer, Gounod, and Handel.

Performance Date: May 30, 2020 

Fauré’s Requiem will be performed by the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique and the Monteverdi Choir and Soloists under John Eliot Gardiner.

Performance Date: May 30, 2020 

Vivica Genaux and Carlos Aragón will star in “Vivica & Viardot,” a concert focused on music by Viardot, Rossini, Gluck, Schumann, and Saint-Saëns.

Performance Date: May 31, 2020

Cecilia Bartoli, Javier Camarena, Julia Hagen, Khatia Buniatishvili, Anna Laudere, and Maxim Vengerov will star in a concert featuring music of Rossini, Mendelssohn, Liszt, Saint-Saëns, and Glinka.
