This week audiences are in for six brand new DVDs with some of the worlds greatest singers. It will be hard to pick one from these new releases. Here is a look!

L’Italiana D’Algeri 

Cecilia Bartoli’s acclaimed role debut in Rossini’s classic gets released through Unitel. She is joined by Ildar Abdrazakov, Edgardo Rocha, and Alessandro Corbelli. Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier direct. The production comes from the Salzburg Festival.

Il Barbiere di Siviglia

Legendary baritone Leo Nucci stars in the title role of Rossini’s most famous opera alongside legendary bass Ferruccio Furlanetto. They star alongside a young cast that includes Nino Machaidze, Dmitry Korchak, and Carlo Lepore with Daniel Oren conducting.

Bel Air Classiques releases the new DVD from the Arena di Verona.

Beatrice Cenci

Gal James, Christoph Pohl, Dshamilja Kaiser, and Christina Bock star in Berthold Goldschmidt’s rarely performed work. The production from the Bregenz Festival is directed by  Johannes Erath and conducted by Johannes Debus. C Major releases the work.  

Salome 

Asmik Grigorian takes on the title role in Strauss’ iconic opera in an acclaimed production by Romeo Castellucci. The production from the Salzburg Festival also stars John Daszak, Anna Maria Chiuri, Gábor Bretz, and Julian Prégardien. Unitel Classica releases the new DVD, which is conducted by Franz-Welser Möst.

Pique Dame 

Hans Neuenfels vivid production from last summer’s Salzburg Festival gets a release by Unitel with a cast that includes Brandon Jovanovich,  Evgenia Muraveva, Vladislav Sulimsky, Igor Golovatenko, and Hanna Schwarz. The production is conducted by Mariss Jansons.

Cavalleria Rusticana

Alexia Voulgaridou and Angelo Villari star in Mascagni’s masterpiece alongside Devid Cecconi, Marina Ogii, and Elena Zilio. The production by Luigi di Gangi and Ugo Giacomazzi comes from the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and is conducted by Valerio Galli. Dynamic releases the production.
