Roberto Alagna, Sonya Yoncheva, Venera Gimadieva & Jakub Józef Orliński Have Releases

It’s a star-studded week of releases. There will be two solo debut albums, one important DVD release, and the debut of two stars on a new label. Here is a look!

Puccini in Love

Roberto Alagna and Aleksandra Kurzak team up for their first collaborative album featuring the works of Puccini. The new album features excerpts from “Manon Lescaut,” “La Fanciulla del West,” “Madama Butterfly,” “Il tabarro,” and “La bohème.’ The recording features Riccardo Frizza conducting the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra. The recording also marks the first CD in Alagna and Kurzak’s long-term contract with Sony Classical.

Anima Sacra

Countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński releases his first solo album for Erato. The album features eleven Neapolitan arias, eight of which are receiving world premiere recordings, including works by Nicola Fago, Francesco Durante, Francesco Feo, Domenico Sarro, and Domingo Terradellas. Other arias featured on the album come from Gaetano Schiassi, Jan Dismas Zelenka, Johann Hasse, and Johann Heinichen. The album features ensemble Il Pomo d’Oro conducted by Maxim Emelyanychev.

Momento Immobile

Venera Gimadieva explores the Bel Canto repertoire singing arias from Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti. Among the works explored are “Lucia di Lammermoor,” “L’Eliri d’Amore,” “La Sonnambula,” “I Capuleti e Montecchi” and “Tancredi.” The album will be released by Rubicon and marks the soprano’s solo album. Gianluca Marciano conducts.

Iolanta

Sonya Yoncheva’s interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s heroine comes to DVD in a production by Dimitri Tcherniakov. The production also features the composer’s “The Nutcracker” and comes a few months before Yoncheva returns to the role at the Metropolitan Opera. Bel Air releases the DVD from the Opera National de Paris.
