This week’s major releases are as varied as they get. On one hand you have a famed interpreter of a renowned classic finally getting a home video release. There is also a recent world premiere getting its first commercial release.

To top it all off, an iconic artist records his first album in half a decade. Let’s take a look.

Madama Butterfly

Ermonela Jaho brings her acclaimed interpretation of Cio-Cio San to DVD for the first time. Sir. Antonio Pappano conducts the beloved production by Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier. The video also stars Marcelo Puente and Scott Hendricks.

Opus Arte releases the new DVD.

Autumn Sonata

Bis releases the world premiere recording of “Autumn Sonata,” which had its first performances at the Finnish National Opera last season. The recording stars Anne Sofie Von Otter, Erika Sunnegardh, Helena Juntunen, and Tommi Hakala. John Storgårds conducts the work, which was also recorded and showcased last season on OperaVision.

Dreams and Songs

Bryn Terfel records his first studio album in five years. This year he releases an album dedicated Charlie Chaplin, Karl Jenkins, Augustin Lara, John Denver, and other great classics from crossover repertoire. Deutsche Grammophon releases the new recording.
