CD / DVD Releases – Week of Nov. 5

Marina Rebeka & Eva-Maria Westbroek Lead New Releases

By Francisco Salazar

Three exciting releases are set for this week. The first comes from one of the most exciting divas performing today while the other two come from recent acclaimed performances. One includes the final installment of the Ring Cycle. Here is what we recommend this weekend!

Marina Rebeka releases her third solo album for the newly created label Prima Classic. The album features scenes from “Anna Bolena,” “Maria Stuarda,” “Il Pirata,” “Norma,” and “La Vestale.” Jader Bignamini conducts the Teatro Massimo di Palmero Orchestra and Chorus.

Christopher Maltman and Eva-Maria Wetsbroek star in the Dutch National Opera’s “Wozzeck” directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski. Marcel Beekman, Sir Willard White, and Frank van Aken also star with Naxos releasing the DVD.

From Hong Kong, Jaap van Zweden’s conducts the finale to Wagner’s epic “Der Ring des Nibelungen.” Vividly recorded during two concert performances this past January, van Zewden leads the Hong Kong Philharmonic, three choruses, and an impressive international cast, that includes German soprano Gun-Brit Barkmin as Brünnhilde for the very first time, Daniel Brenna (Siegfried), Eric Halfvarson (Hagen), Michelle DeYoung (Waltraute), and Amanda Majeski (Gutrune).
