CD / DVD Releases – Week of January 8: Luca Pisaroni & Fritz Wunderlich Dominate New Releases

This week the first releases of 2018 will finally land in stores. Among those showcased are rarities and one masterpiece. Here is a look!

“Le Nozze di Figaro”

Luca Pisaroni stars as Figaro in a new DVD of Mozart’s masterpiece. The production from the Theatre des Champs-Elysees also stars Pietro Spagnoli as Count Almaviva, Annette Dasch as La Contessa, and Rosemary Joshua in the role of Susanna. The opera was filmed with the Concerto Köln and Rene Jacobs conducting. Bel Air Classiques releases the new DVD.

“Pique Dame”

C Major releases a new production from the Dutch National Opera of Tchaikovsky;’s rarely performed work “Pique Dame.” Mariss Jansons conducts the production by Stefan Herheim with Misha Didyk, Alexey Markov, and Svetlana Aksenova.  The production was filmed in the summer of 2016.

Schubert lieder

Paul Armin Edelmann and pianist Charles Spencer team up for a new recital album featuring the music of Schubert. Capriccio releases the album which marks the sixth album for Edelmann with Capriccio. 

Wunderlich: Music Before Bach 

SWR music releases a set to release a new set featuring legendary tenor Fritz Wunderlich in the music of Snefl, Rener, Grandi, Schutz and many more rarities.
