Catherine Foster To Make UK Return in 2020 As ‘Elektra’

By David Salazar

The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra is set to perform Richard Strauss’ “Elektra” in 2020. Performances are set for March 18 in Poole with an additional on March 21, 2020 in Birmingham.

The work will be conducted by the BSO’s Chief Conductor Kirill Karabits with Catherine Foster in the demanding title role. This will be Foster’s first opera performance in the United Kingdom in 20 years. She will be joined by Allison Oakes as Chrysothemis as well as Susan Bullock in the role of Klytemnestra. Oakes is making her UK debut with this performance.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to have been invited by Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra to sing, not only a favourite role of mine, on returning to the UK, but combining that with the city and stunning Symphony Hall where it all began for me as a BMus student at the Royal Birmingham conservatoire makes this something very special,” Foster noted in a press release.
