By Logan Martell

On May 16, 2023, Rose of the Compass and the Cathedral Choir of St. John the Divine will present “Venice, City of Light.”

This concert is the last of the Cathedral’s 2022-23 season’s “Great Music in a Great Space” series. Created by artistic directors Nina Stern and Kent Tritle, the program is a celebration of the titular city and its accomplishments from the Middle Ages to the 20th Century, and explores the presence of Jewish, Turkish, and Armenian communities alongside the music born from the Basilica of San Marco.

Artists for the evening include Ara Dinkjian on the oud, Tamer Pinarbasi on the kanun, as well as percussionist Glen Velez, cellist Arthur Fiacco, organist Daniel Ficarri, and mezzo-soprano Tracy Cowart. Nina Stern will perform on the recorder and chalumeau, and Kent Tritle will conduct the Cathedral Choir.

The performance will be held at the Cathedral’s Chapel of St. James. Student rush tickets will be available on the day of the performance, with one free ticket being given for those who show student ID.
