Catalyst New Music to Present World Premiere Workshop of ‘This Is Not That Dawn’
By David SalazarCatalyst New Music will present a world premiere workshop of “This Is Not That Dawn” on May 27, 2022.
The showcase, which will take place at The Center for the Arts at the Armory in Somerville, MA, will feature a preview of Omar Najmi’s new opera.
The work is set during the 1947 Partition of India and stars Amanda Densmoor, Francesca Mehrotra, Samina Aslam, Amal El-Shrafi, Nicholas LaGesse, and Najmi himself.
“As we approach the 75th anniversary of Partition in August, I hope that this piece will encourage the audience to reflect on the legacy of colonialism, religious division, and the South Asian diaspora,” Najmi told OperaWire regarding his new work.
