The Bayreuth Festival has announced a new cast for its production of “Parsifal” on August 17.

The company said, “Unfortunately, Georg Zeppenfeld is unable to sing in tomorrow’s performance of ‘Parsifal’ due to illness. Thankfully, Günther Groissböck will be stepping in to take over the role of Gurnemanz.”

Groissböck, who made his Bayreuth debut in 2011, is performing “Tristan und Isolde” this year with the festival. In past seasons, he has performed in “Tannhäuser,” “Parsifal,” “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg,” and “Das Rheingold.”

Groissböck is set to join a cast that includes Michael Volle, Tobias Kehrer, Andreas Schager, Jordan Shanahan, and Ekaterina Gubanova. Pablo Heras-Casado conducts the production by Jay Scheib.
