Cast Change: Zubin Mehta Withdraws from Bayerische Staatsoper’s ‘Die Fledermaus’
By Francisco SalazarThe Bayerische Staatsoper has announced a conductor change for its production of “Die Fledermaus.”
The company said, “It is with great regret that we must announce that Zubin Mehta will not be able to conduct ‘Die Fledermaus’ at the Bavarian State Opera, scheduled for December and January, due to personal reasons. This decision was made after careful consideration and in close consultation with all parties involved. We understand that this cancellation will be disappointing for many music lovers. We are all the more grateful for your understanding in this exceptional situation.”
As a result, Nicholas Carter will conduct the production.
Carter has performed with the Metropolitan Opera, Staatsoper Stuttgart, Santa Fe Opera, Seattle Symphony, and Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal.
“Die Fledermaus” is set to star Rolando Villazón, Rachel Willis-Sørensen, Martin Winkler, John Holiday, Pavol Breslik, and Konstantin Krimmel. The work opens on Dec. 31, 2025.
