The Maggio Musciale Fiorentino has announced a cast change for its Sept. 26 performance.

The company said that Maestro Zubin Mehta has withdrawn from conducting Mahler’s Symphony No. 2. As a result, Maestro Thomas Guggeis will conduct the symphony which will star Nikoletta Hertsak and Natalie Lewis.

However, the company did note that Maestro Mehta and Nancy Mehta will assist the concert.

Guggeis is a rising star conductor who is currently rehearsing for a production of “Wozzeck” at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. He has conducted at the Oper Frankfurt, Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Stuttgarter Staatsoper, Metropolitan Opera, and Wiener Staatsoper.
