
Cast Change: Stephen Costello Joins Canadian Opera Company’s ‘Romeo et Juliette’
By Francisco SalazarThe Canadian Opera Company has announced a cast change for its production of “Romeo et Juliette.”
The company said that Stephen Costello will sing the role of Romeo, replacing the originally announced Bekhzod Davronov.
Costello has performed “Madama Butterfly,” Rigoletto,” and “Lucia di Lammermoor” at the Canadian Opera Company. This season, Costello is set to perform at the Metropolitan Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, Dallas Opera, and Santa Fe Opera.
He is set to join a cast that includes Kseniia Proshina, Robert Pomakov, Gordon Bintner, Korin Thomas-Smith, Angelo Moretti, Megan Latham, and Owen McCausland. Yves Abel conducts the production by Amy Lane.
“Romeo et Juliette” is set to be performed between Sept. 27 and Oct. 18, 2025.
