The Bayreuth Festival has announced a new cast change for its August 19 performance of “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.”
The company said that “Axel Kober will conduct instead of Daniele Gatti, while Michael Volle will sing the role of Hans Sachs instead of Georg Zeppenfeld and Ya-Chung Huang will take over the role of David for Matthias Stier.”
Kober made his Bayreuth debut in 2013 and has since conducted “Tannhäuser” and “Der fliegende Holländer.”
Meanwhile, Volle made his Bayreuth debut in 2007 and has performed the role of Hans Sachs with the festival in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021.
Huang made his Bayreith debut in 2024 and this season is performing productions of “Siegfried” and “Das Rheingold.”
“Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” is set to star Jongmin Park, Martin Koch, Christina Nilsson, and Christa Mayer. Matthias Davids directs the production.
