Cast Change: Mariangela Sicilia Takes Over Teatro San Carlo’s ‘Alcina’

The Teatro San Carlo has announced a cast change for its Oct. 9 and 11 performances of Handel’s “Alcina.”

The company said, “We wish to inform the audience that, due to the sudden indisposition of Lisette Oropesa, the role of Alcina in the production of the same name will be performed by Mariangela Sicilia.”

Over the years, Sicilia has performed at the Opéra national de Paris, Teatro Real de Madrid, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Salzburg Festival, Sydney Opera House, Dutch National Opera, and Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Royal Opera House in Muscat, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Teatro Regio in Turin, Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and Arena di Verona.

The soprano is set to join a cast that includes Franco Fagioli, Varduhi Abrahamyan, Sun Tianxuefei, Erin Morley, Sayumi Kaneko, and Yunho Eric Kim. Iván López-Reynoso conducts.
