
Cast Change: Elena Stikhina Takes Over Final ‘Iolanta’ Performances in Vienna
By Francisco SalazarThe Wiener Staatsoper has announced a cast change for its production of “Iolanta.”
The company said that Sonya Yoncheva will no longer perform the title role on Sept. 13 and 16. As a result, Elena Stikhina will replace her.
The change comes after Yoncheva announced on social media that she was experiencing physical fatigue following a full summer schedule. She canceled both the Sept. 10 performance and the Wiener Staatsoper gala on Sept. 7.
Stikhina is a well-known soprano who has performed at the Royal Opera House, Metropolitan Opera, Mariinsky Theatre, Zurich Opera, and Lyric Opera of Chicago, among others.
Stikhina is set to join a cast that includes Ivo Stanchev, Boris Pinkhasovich, Dmytro Popov, Attila Mokus, Daniel Jenz, Simonas Strazdas, Monika Bohinec, Maria Zherebiateva, and Teresa Sales Rebordão. Timur Zangiev conducts.
