Cast Change: Dean Murphy Joins Cast of ‘Pique Dame’ at Deutsche Oper Berlin

By David Salazar

The Deutsche Oper Berlin has announced that American baritone Dean Murphy is set to take over the role of Prince Yeletsky in Tchaikovsky’s “Pique Dame” this November.

He takes over for Stéphane Degout in the production that opens on Nov. 1, 2026.

Murphy, who was previously an ensemble member with the company, previously sang the role with the company in two previus seasons, with Der Online Merker noting that “the dazzling American baritone possesses a masculine, elegant, dreamlike timbre and is able to allow his robust, dark voice, balanced across all registers, to blossom in luxurious legato and shape it into strikingly nuanced parlando.”

He joins a cast that stars Arsen Soghomonyan, Alexey Markov, Elena Guseva, and Doris Soffel. Kirill Karabits conducts.
