Cast Change Announced for Dresden ‘I Puritani’

By Francisco Salazar

Lisette Oropesa has canceled her performance of “I Puritani” on Dec. 10 due to illness.

The soprano took to social media and said, “Dear friends, I’m having a rocky end to the year. After being in Dresden for several days recording I Puritani with the most incredible cast I could ever imagine, I seem to have caught some kind of chest bug. It started as chest pressure, then developed into a cough. I have spent the last two days in bed steaming, drinking hot tea, and trying to calm my very irritated throat. I am feeling marginally better today, but out of an abundance of caution, I will be canceling my participation in tonight’s live performance of I puritani at the Kulturpalast. I’m so disappointed at this sudden onset of what appears to be bronchitis and inflammation, and would normally just power through…but that’s not the right thing to do. Not for the audience, not for my colleagues, and not for my voice, which I must protect.”

She added, “I’m sorry to everyone who purchased tickets to see me, but I am over the moon with all the material we already have for the recording. The experience we have had together has been incredible, and each of my colleagues is a brilliant singer and artist! Tonight’s concert will still go on, and audiences will be treated to the most stunning Elvira in the world, Ms. Jessica Pratt, who flew in yesterday and kindly agreed to sing the concert. She is so brilliant, and a wonderful friend whom I admire greatly. My gratitude to her is immense!”

Pratt is set to join a cast that includes Lawrence Brownlee, Anthony Clark Evans, and Riccardo Zanellato. Riccardo Frizza conducts the concert performance.
