The Staatsoper Berlin has announced that despite canceling performances for audiences, it will still live stream its performance of “Carmen” on March 12.

The performance, which stars Michael Fabiano and Anita Rachvelishvili, will be live streamed on the Staatsoper website as well as the RBB Kultur site. In addition, it will be shown on television on Saturday in Germany.

The opera will be performed without an audience and will also star Lucio Gallo and Christiane Karg. Daniel Barenboim conducts Martin Kušej’s production.

The Staatsoper Berlin announced on March 10 that it would close down due to the coronavirus outbreak. The company will cancel performances through April 19.

The company is set to return with a revival of “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” with Juan José de León and Tara Erraught and “Die Zauberflote” with Elsa Dreisig, Mauro Peter, and René Pape.
