Teatro Massimo di Palermo will be live streaming the opening of its 2021 season with the performance of the complex, site-specific opera “Il Crepuscolo dei Sogni.”

The opera includes music from Claudio Monteverdi, Henry Purcell, Joseph Haydn, Ludwig van Beethoven, Gioachino Rossini, Franz Schubert, Richard Wagner, Giuseppe Verdi, Modest Mussorgsky, Arrigo Boito, Richard Strauss, Erich Korngold, Werner Richard Heymann, Leonard Bernstein, and Chava Alberstein.

The performance will take place on Jan. 26, 2021, at 8. p.m. CET and will star soprano Carmen Giannattasio, baritone Markus Werba, and bass-baritone Alexandros Stavrakakis. Teatro Massimo’s Musical Director Omer Meir Wellber will conduct the production by Johannes Erath.

In the showcase, the Orchestra, the Chorus, the Children’s Choir, together with soloists will be moving on an expanded stage space that includes the actual stage, the auditorium, the boxes, and the theatre’s gallery.

“As we wait to meet again in the theatre and as we look forward to producing the already announced ‘Eugene Onegin,’ we begin the new year with a production that forces us to think about the present and the consequences of distancing and isolation,” said Superintendent Francesco Giambrone in a press release. “The production, entrusted to the creativity of Stage Director Johannes Erath and to Music Director Omer Meir Wellber, involves all areas of the Theatre: the Orchestra, the Chorus, the Children’s Choir, and the Corps de Ballet. We take up the challenge that the circumstances have forced on us and we continue experiencing new languages to share with our audience from home, as we look forward to meeting again.”

The showcase will be available on the Teatro Massimo WebTv.
