Carmela Remigio & Maria José Siri Headline Maggio Musicale Fiorentino’s 2019-20 Season
By Francisco SalazarThe Maggio Musicale Fiorentino has announced its 2019-20 season featuring rarely staged works and some of the most popular in the repertory.
Spontini’s “Fernando Cortez” opens the season with Fabio Luisi conducting the new production by Cecilia Ligorio. The production stars Dario Schmunck in the title role as well as Alexia Voulgaridou.
Performance Dates: Oct. 12-23, 2019
Marina Comparato and Karina Demurova sin the title role of Bizet’s “Carmen” with Luciano Ganci and Samuele Simoncini in the role of Don José. Fabrizio Beggi sings the role of Escamillo with Lavinia Bini and Federica Vitali as Michaela. Sesto Quatrini conducts the production.
Performance Dates: Oct. 13-25, 2019
Maria José Siri headlines “Il Triticco” singing “Suor Angelica” and “Il Tabarro.” Franco Vassallo and Angelo Villari join the soprano in ‘Il Tabarro,” while Anna Maria Chiuri sings all three operas. Bruno De Simone sings the title role of “Gianni Schicchi” while Valerio Galli conducts the new production Denis Krief.

Devid Cecconi sings the title role in Verdi’s “Rigoletto” with Giuseppe Gipali as the Duke, Ruth Iniesta and Gilda Fiume as Gilda. Abramo Rosalen and Anna Malavasi sing Sparafucile and Maddalena. Renato Palumbo conducts.
