Cape Town Opera Unveils 2026 Season

Cape Town Opera announces its 2026 season, featuring concert programs, community performances, family offerings, musical theatre, and grand opera across venues in Cape Town.

The season opens with “Gershwin in the Park,” a one-night concert at the Maynardville Open Air Festival featuring the Cape Town Opera Vocal Ensemble and selections from “Porgy and Bess” and the Gershwin songbook.

Performance Date: February 15, 2026


The “Opera in Your Neighbourhood” series continues through February in partnership with the City of Cape Town. These free concerts bring opera, musical theatre, and African spirituals to community venues across the city.

“Opera Blocks: Under the Sea” will be performed by Judith Neilson Young Artists and Vocal Ensemble members. The program offers an immersive experience for children ages 0–5 at various venues.

Haydn’s “Nelson Mass” follows at Toringkerk in Paarl in collaboration with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.

Cape Town Opera presents Bizet’s “Carmen” at the Artscape Opera House.

Performance Dates: May 19–31, 2026


Sondheim’s “A Little Night Music” runs at Theatre on the Bay.

Performance Dates: June 30–July 12, 2026


A new English-language adaptation of Janáček’s “The Cunning Little Vixen” is presented at the Joseph Stone Auditorium.

Performance Dates: July 21–26, 2026


“Porgy and Bess” will go on tour throughout Europe.

Performance Dates: Sept. 11-21, 2026


Gounod’s “Roméo et Juliette” plays at Artscape in October.
