Cape Town Opera to Present Community Concerts as Part of ‘Opera in Your Neighborhood’ Initiative
By David SalazarCape Town Opera, in association with the City of Cape Town’s Community, Arts and Culture Development Department, will present three free community concerts across Cape Town under its “Opera in Your Neighbourhood” initiative.
The Cape Town Opera Vocal Ensemble, comprising 18 members and a chorus master, will perform a program spanning opera, classical, musical theatre, African traditional, and gospel music at community venues across the city.
“Opera is a uniquely powerful art form that combines music, drama visual art and dance. It is often viewed as inaccessible, but through Opera in Your Neighbourhood we bring the opera to communities. The City is proud to support this initiative as it gives residents an opportunity to attend a concert and be immersed in this rich cultural art form,” said Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Francine Higham, per an official press release.
Performances take place at the Langa Civic Centre on Feb. 26 at 12 p.m., the Bothasig Community Hall on Feb. 27 at 6 p.m., and the Fish Hoek Community Hall on Feb. 28 at 12 p.m.. All concerts are free and open to residents of all ages.
