Cape Town Opera Receives Six Nominations at Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards

Cape Town Opera has received six nominations from the Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards.

The company earned a Best Female Opera soloists nomination for sopranos Nobulumko Mngxekeza for her turn as Tosca. Also nominated was Brittany Smith for her interpretation as Violetta in “La Traviata” and soprano Janelle Visagie for her role in “Cinderella.”

In the Best Male Opera category, the nominees include Conroy Scott for his turn as Baron Scarpia in “Tosca” and Lukhanyo Moyake, who was nominated twice in the category for his work as Alfredo Germont in “La Traviata” and Mario Cavaradossi in “Tosca.”

Additionally, Cape Town Opera’s collaboration with Pieter Toerien Production on “The Sound of Music” received nominations for Best Production, Best Director, Best Performance by a Lead Actress in a Musical, Best Performances by a Supporting Actress in a Musical, Best Performance by a Lead Actor in a Musical, Best Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Musical, and Best Set Design.

The Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards will take place on March 17, 2024.
