Cape Town Opera & Opera UCT Announce Production of ‘La Traviata’

Cape Town Opera and Opera UCT are set to present a production of Verdi’s “La Traviata” this October 26-29, 2023.
The work will star Brittany Smith as Violetta, Lukhanyo Moyake as Alfredo, and Conroy Scott as Germont; a second cast features Ondelwa Martins as Violetta, Sakhumzi Martins as Alfredo and Siphe Kwani as Germont. Other performers include Asisipho Petu, Julia Portela Piñon, Tylor Lamani, Lwazi Dlamini, and Lonwabo Mose. Also participating are Opera UCT’s Lauren Pharaoh, Christine Bam, Yonwaba Mbo, Vuyisa Xipu, and Eric van Rooyen.
Jeremy Silver will conduct the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. “La Traviata” was the first opera he conducted in South Africa back in 2004.
Marí Borstlap will direct a post-modern take on the work.
