By Afton Markay

The 2025 DUET Endowment Trust Gala was held on Oct. 4, the Artscape opera house.

The annual DUET Endowment Trust Gala took place in celebration of South African operatic and musical excellence. Among performers were Golda Schultz and Jacques Imbrailo, as well as Cape Town Opera’s house soloists, Judith Neilson Young Artists, vocal ensemble, and Children’s Chorus. They were joined by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Gaetano Lo Coco.

Nicholas Ackerman, the incoming Chair of the DUET Endowment Trust, spoke at the event. He is quoted saying, “When my grandmother, Wendy Ackerman, founded the DUET Endowment Trust, the mission was simple and powerful—to support and protect the future of Cape Town Opera and the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. These are not just cultural institutions; they are part of the heartbeat of our city, enriching lives across South Africa and far beyond.”

Later this month, Cape Town Opera will present David Kramer’s “Orpheus McAdoo,” as well as “The Barber of Seville,” and “The Magic Flute.”
