Cape Town Opera Announces 2026-27 Judith Neilson Young Artists
By David SalazarCape Town Opera has announced the appointment of eight singers to its Judith Neilson Young Artist Programme for the 2026-27 season.
The newly appointed Young Artists are tenors Dumisa Masoka, Iviwe Boms, and Thandolwethu Longo; mezzo-sopranos Nica Reinke (OperaUCT) and Rethabile Khaile (North-West University); and bass-baritone Thabo Mabuse of Lesotho. They join current Young Artists Khayakazi Madlala and Sisikelelwe Mngenela, who appeared with the company last season.
The program provides advanced professional training and bursary support for postgraduate singers, with occasional opportunities for pianists and conductors. Young Artists receive structured vocal and dramatic instruction alongside hands-on experience in rehearsal and performance at Artscape, working with Cape Town Opera’s artistic staff and guest professionals.
The program is led by vocal coach Jan Hugo and includes mentorship, individual coaching, and a monthly stipend.
