Canadian Opera Company to Present ‘Faust’

The Canadian Opera Company is set to present Gounod’s “Faust” at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts.

The opera, which is set to be presented on Oct. 11, 13, 16, 18, 24, 26, and Nov. 2, 2024, will be directed by Amy Lane, featuring sets and costumes designed by Emma Ryott. The production is a co-production with the Malmo Opera.

COC Music Director Johannes Debus will conduct the production which will star Long Long in the title role, Kyle Ketelsen as the demon Méphistophélès, and Guanqun Yu in the role of Marguerite. Ensemble Studio soprano Ariane Cossette sings the final performance on Nov. 2.

The cast will be rounded out by mezzo-soprano and Ensemble Studio graduate Alex Hetherington as Siebel, Ensemble Studio baritone Korin Thomas-Smith as Wagner, Szymon Mechlinski as Valentin, and mezzo-soprano Meghan Latham as Marthe.

“Faust” is sung in French and will be presented by the COC with English surtitles.
