Canadian Opera Company Launches Virtual Choir Project

By David Salazar

The Canadian Opera company is set to launch the Virtual Choir.

The group, which will be led by Price Family Chorus Master Sandra Horst will feature singers of all ages and abilities in a performance of the Anvil Chorus from Verdi’s “Il Trovatore.”

“We’re very excited about this project,” COC General Director Alexander Neef stated in a press release. “We know that our audiences and local communities have missed being able to take part in the many music workshops we typically host throughout the year, including our popular Chorus Sing-Along event. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone once again, virtually, and having this unique opportunity to connect, while physically apart.”

Participants can register for the project here. From there, they will be sent a “starter pack” which includes a step-by-step video series of tutorials by Horst, a back track featuring several COC Ensemble studio members, and full instructions on how to record their parts for submission to the video compilation by COC.

The organization is accepting submissions through May 30, 2020.
