The Canadian Opera Company has announced that filming is set to begin next week in Toronto on “Seven Veils,” a new feature film from acclaimed filmmaker Atom Egoyan and Rhombus Media.

The production will star Amanda Seyfried who will play Jeanine, an earnest theatre director, who has been given the daunting task of remounting her former mentor’s most famous work, the opera “Salome” by Richard Strauss.

In a statement Egoyan said, “I first produced ‘Salome‘ for the Canadian Opera Company almost 30 years ago and have been haunted by its themes,” says Egoyan. “This is a project I’ve been dreaming about for years and it’s such a thrill to be reunited with Amanda after the amazing experience we had together making Chloe.”

Egoyan first directed “Salome” for the Canadian Opera Company in 1996 and has since returned at the helm of later revivals. He is set to revive his production this season on stage.

“Seven Veils” is a Rhombus Media and Ego Film Arts production, produced with the participation of Telefilm Canada in association with Cinetic Media, IPR.VC, XYZ Films, and the Canadian Opera Company.
