Camilla Nylund Receives Kammersängerin Distinction In Vienna

Camilla Nylund has received the Kammersängerin distinction at the Wiener Staatsoper.

The Finnish soprano was awarded the distinction on June 6 following a performance of R. Strauss’ “Die Frau Ohne Schatten.”

The award was handed to Nylund by Dominque Meyer, the Staatsoper’s general director, and Stephen Gould, who is currently performing alongside Nylund.

Nylund made her Vienna debut in 2005 in the title role of “Salome” and has since performed the title roles in “Arabella,” “Ariadne auf Naxos,” and “Rusalka,” Gräfin in ‘Capriccio,” Agathe in “Der Freischütz,” Marschallin in “Der Rosenkavalier,” Rosalinde in ‘Die Fledermaus,” Marietta in “Die tote Stadt,” Sieglinde in “Die Walküre,” Donna Anna in “Don Giovanni,” Leonore in “Fidelio,” Elsa in “Lohengrin,” and Elisabeth in “Tannhäuser.”

Next season she returns to Vienna reprising the roles of the Kaiserin in “Die Frau Ohne Schatten,” Marschallin, Agathe and Arabella.
