Camilla Nylund & Asmik Grigorian Lead Wiener Staatsoper’s New Year’s Eve ‘Die Fledermaus’

The Wiener Staatsoper is set to celebrate the New Year with a specially filmed performance of J.Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus.”

The opera, which will be broadcast on ORF III on Dec. 31, 2020 will be conducted by Cornelius Meister in Otto Schenk’s classic production.

The operetta will star  Georg Nigl in his company role debut as Eisenstein, Camilla Nylund as Rosalinde,  Jochen Schmeckenbecher as Frank and Peter Simonischek as Frog. The cast will also include Regula Mühlemann in the role of Adele and Christina Bock in her Wiener Staatsoper debut as Orlofsky.

The performance will also include a surprise special guest. This year that guest will be Asmik Grigorian, who made her company debut in September in “Madama Butterfly.”

This month the company is also set to perform streams of “Tosca,” and “Der Rosenkavalier.”
