Camilla Nylund, Amanda Majeski & Lise Lindstrom Lead Semperoper Dresden’s 2023-24 Season

The Semperoper Dresden has announced its 2023-24 season. Here is a look at the operatic productions of the season.

Premieres 

Puccini’s “Turandot” is set to star Elisabeth Teige, Aleksei Kulagin, Yonghoon Lee, and Elbenita Kajtazi. Ivan Repušić conducts the new production by Marie-Eve Signeyrole.

Performance Dates: Oct. 7-Nov. 25, 2023

Mary Plazas, Katerina von Bennigsen, Peter Tantsits, and Andrew Nolen lead Thomas Ades’ “Powder Her Face.” Tim Anderson conducts the production by Georg Schmiedleitner.

Performance Dates: Oct. 20-28, 2023

Detlev Glanert’s “Die Jüdin von Toledo” will be conducted by Jonathan Darlington and directed by Robert Carsen. Štěpánka Pučálková, Christoph Pohl, Tania Ariane Baumgarten, Markus Marquardt, and Aaron Pegram star.

Performance Dates: Feb. 10-March 8, 2024

Eric Cutler, Camilla Nylund, Evelyn Herlitzius, and Miina-Liisa Värelä lead a new production of Strauss’ “Die Frau ohne Schatten.” Christian Thielemann conducts the production by David Bösch.

Performance Dates: March 23-April 2, 2024

Janáček’s “Káťa Kabanová” will star Kurt Rydl, Dmitry Golovnin, Christa Mayer, Simeon Esper, and Amanda Majeski. Alejo Pérez conducts the production by Calixto Bieito.

Performance Dates: April 28-May 19, 2024

“Woyzeck” will be conducted by Max Renne and directed by Manfred Weiß.

Performance Dates: June 7-17, 2024

Berlioz’s “Benvenuto Cellini” will be conducted by Giampaolo Bisanti and directed by Barbora Horáková Joly. The cast will include Anton Rositskiy, Ante Jerkunica, Tilmann Rönnebeck, Aaron Pegram, Martin-Jan Nijhof, Jürgen Müller, Matthias Henneberg, Tuuli Takala, and Štěpánka Pučálkov.

Performance Dates: June 29-July 10, 2024

Repertoire 

Maxim Mironov, Roberto De Candia, Cecilia Molinari, Andrei Zhilikhovsky, and Taras Shtonda star in Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia.” The opera will also include Marco Filippo Romano, Lilly Jørstad, and Emmett O’Hanlon. Evelino Pidò conducts.

Performance Dates: Nov. 10, 2023-Jan. 2, 2024

“Blues Brothers” is set to star David Whitley, Vanessa Weiskopf, Gerald Hupach, and Bettina Weichert. Max Renne conducts.

Performance Dates: June 28-July 7, 2024

Elbenita Kajtazi, Katerina von Bennigsen, Tomislav Mužek, and Sebastian Wartig star in Puccini’s “La Bohème.” The opera will also star Ofeliya Pogosyan, Alexey Markov, Katerina von Bennigsen, and Nikola Hillebrand. Srba Dinić and Stefano Ranzani conduct.

Marina Viotti headlines Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” with Levy Sekgapane, Peter Kálmán, and Edward Nelson. Alessandro De Marchi conducts.

Offenbach’s “Les Contes d’Hoffmann” is set star Enea Scala, Štěpánka Pučálková, Hrachuhí Bassénz, Anna Hofmann, Magdalena Anna Hofmann and Egils Silins.

Daniel Harding conducts Weber’s “Der Freischütz” with  Sebastian Wartig, Tilmann Rönnebeck, Jacquelyn Wagner, Nikola Hillebrand, Georg Zeppenfeld, and Tomislav Mužek.

Performance Dates: Sept. 21-Oct. 3, 2023

In time for the New Year, the company will present “Die Fledermaus” with Jürgen Müller, Hulkar Sabirova, Galeano Salas, Štěpánka Pučálková, and Alice Rossi. Georg Fritzsch conducts.

Luciano Chailly’s “Die kahle Sängerin” will star  Ilya Silchuk, Jennifer Riedel, and Martin-Jan Nijhof. Thomas Leo Cadenbach conducts.

Korngold’s “Die tote Stadt” will star Klaus Florian Vogt, Elena Guseva, Christoph Pohl, Michal Doron, and Jürgen Müller. Dmitri Jurowski conducts.

Verdi’s “Don Carlo” is set to star Alexandros Stavrakakis, Elena Guseva, Stefan Pop, Elena Zhidkova, and Christoph Pohl. Jordi Bernàcer conducts.

Lise Lindstrom stars in Strauss’ “Elektra” with Doris Soffel, Vida Miknevičiūtė, Jürgen Müller, and Christof Fischesser. Marc Albrecht conducts.

Tuuli Takala, Khanyiso Gwenxane, Sebastian Wartig, and Markus Marquardt star in Donzietti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore.” Gaetano d’Espinosa conducts.

Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel” will star Nicole Chirka, Nikola Hillebrand, Štěpánka Pučálková, and Katerina von Bennigsen.

Stephen Sondheim’s “Into the Woods” is set to star Arnold Beckert, Aaron Pegram, Bettina Weichert, Sarah Maria Sun, Elke Kottmair, Ricardo Frenzel Baudisch, Lawson Anderson, and Markus Störk.

Christoph Pohl, Elena Gorshunova, Nikola Hillebrand, Michael Nagl, and Cecilia Molinari star in Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro.” The opera will star Johannes Kammler, Julia Kleiter, Katerina von Bennigsen, Martin-Jan Nijhof, Anna Stéphany, Sebastian Wartig, Tuuli Takala, and Lawson Anderson. Gaetano d’Espinosa, Georg Fritzsch, and Johannes Fritzsch conduct.
