By David Salazar

As we move closer and closer toward the end of 2019, the amount of operas on offer also diminish. Of course, there is one opera that makes it on this list every weekend from here on out. You know the drill. Enjoy!

Der Rosenkavalier – Metropolitan Opera

Camila Nylund, Magdalena Kožená, and Golda Schultz will star in the Robert Carsen production under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle. That’s some of the best casting of the Met Opera’s fall schedule, full stop. The opening performance is set for Friday, Dec. 13, 2019.

The Magic Flute – Metropolitan Opera

On Sunday, the Met Opera will present the famed Mozart opera in its English-language translation. This is the final year of the beloved Julie Taymor production, so that alone makes it essential viewing. Joélle Harvey will perform alongside David Portillo with Kathryn Lewek providing her signature Queen of the Night. The remaining cast members include Morris Robinson and Joshua Hopkins. Lothar Koenigs conducts. It’s the perfect opera for the family at this time of the year.

Amahl and the Night Visitors – Nashville Opera, Opera in the Heights, Painted Sky Opera

You knew it was coming and this weekend you get a chance to engage in the holiday tradition in either Texas, Tennessee, or Oklahoma. This weekend will feature the final or only performances of the opera with the respective companies, so don’t miss out on the perennial favorite.
