Buxton International Festival Announces 2026 Opera Season

Buxton International Festival has announced its 2026 opera season.

First up is “La Traviata,” as the company seeks to complete its Verdi cycle.  The production is created in collaboration with Norwich Theatre and is
directed by James Hurley. Adrian Kelly conducts the Buxton International Festival Orchestra.

Performance Dates: July 11- 25, 2026

Next is “The Merry Widow,” a Scottish Opera production in collaboration with Opera Holland Park and D’Oyly Carte Opera. The production is directed by John Savournin, with Bence Kalo serving as Revival Director. Iwan Davies conducts the Buxton International Festival Orchestra.

Performance Dates: July 10–24, 2026


Mozart’s “La clemenza di Tito” will be presented in concert at the Buxton Opera House. Adrian Kelly conducts the Buxton International Festival Orchestra.

Performance Dates: July 19 & 23, 2026


Händel’s “Amadigi di Gaula” follows in a new Buxton International Festival production. The staging is directed by Olivia Fuchs and conducted by Erin Helyard, featuring The English Concert.

Performance Dates: July 12–20, 2026


Francesca Caccini’s “La liberazione di Ruggiero” will be presented by Vache Baroque in association with Buxton International Festival at the Pavilion Arts Centre. The production is conducted by Jonathan Darbourne.

Performance Dates: July 15–21, 2026


Concluding the opera lineup is Pauline Viardot’s “Le dernier sorcier,” a Buxton International Festival production featuring musicians from the Buxton International Festival Orchestra at the Pavilion Arts Centre.
