Buxton International Festival Announces 2022 Slate

The Buxton International Festival in the United Kingdom has announced its 2022 slate, comprising of five operas, an oratorio, a musical, a brand-new jazz program, a books program, and a classical music series.

Here is a look at the opera and vocal performances:

Operas

Adrian Kelly conducts the Northern Chamber Orchestra in Jacopo Spirei’s production of Rossini‘s “La donna del lago.” The production stars Máire Flavin, Catherine Carby, Nico Darmanin, David Ireland, John Irvin and Fiona Finsbury.

Performance Dates: July 8 – 22, 2022

Iwan Davies conducts Stephen Medcalf’s production of Donizetti‘s “Viva la Diva.” George Humphreys, Jenny Stafford, Richard Burkhard, Elliot Carlton Hines, Raimundas Juzuitis, Joseph Doody, and Olivia Carrell star with Iwan Davies conducting.

Performance Dates: July 10 – 23, 2022

Jonathan Dove and Alisdair Middleton’s opera “Mansfield Park” will also be presented. Middleton’s libretto is based on the famous novel “Mansfield Park” by Jane Austen. The production will star Sian Griffiths, Milo Harries, Ellie Neate, Sarah Champion, Emily Gray, Phil Wilcox, Robin Bailey, Eleanor Sanderson-Nash, Lawrence Thackeray,  and Eleanor Garside.

Performance Dates: July 12 – 21, 2022

Next up will be Hasse and Ricciardi’s “Antonio e Cleopatra” in a new production. Thalie Knights and Ellie Neate star with Satoko Doi-Luck conducting the production by Evangeline Cullingworth.

Performance Dates: July 13 – 22, 2022

Tom Coult and Alice Birch’s “Violet” will get one performance with Anna Dennis, Richard Burkhard, Frances Gregory, and Andrew Mackenzie starring. Andrew Gourlay conducts the production by Jude Christian.

Performance Dates: July 18, 2022

Oratorio

Kate Whitley’s and Laura Attridge’s oratorio “Our Future In Your Hands” will be conducted by Tom Newall and directed by Mark Burns. The oratorio will feature the Youth Choir and the Northern Chamber Orchestra, and is a Buxton International Festival production in association with Royal Overseas League.

Performance Dates: July 10 – 17, 2022

Musical

Jule Styne’s and Stephen Sondheim’s “Gypsy: A Musical Fable” will be directed by Paul Kerryson and is a Buxton Opera House and Buxton International Festival production.

Performance dates: July 7 – 24, 2022

The Buxton International Festival will run from July 7 through July 24, 2022 with casts to be announced in a later month.
