Bryan Hymel Cancels Remaining ‘Les Troyens’ Performances

By Francisco Salazar

Bryan Hymel has canceled his remaining performances of “Les Troyens” at the Opéra National de Paris.

The company announced that due to family reasons Hymel would not be able to perform. As a result, Brandon Jovanovich will take over.

Hymel was slated to perform three performances of the seven with Jovanovich performing four shows. It is the second high-profile cancellation for the tenor in Paris. This past fall he was originally scheduled to do “Les Huguenots” but was forced to cancel due to illness. The tenor, however, performed during the 350th anniversary gala alongside Sonya Yoncheva and Ludovic Tezier.

This is also the second major cancellation for the “Les Troyens” production. Previously Elina Garanca withdrew from the cast due to illness and was replaced by Ekaterina Semenchuk.

“Les Troyens” opens on Jan. 22 and also stars Stéphanie d’Oustrac, Véronique Gens, and Christian Van Horn.
