By David Salazar

The Brooklyn Music School has announced the Summer Vocal Arts Opera Program, which is set to run between August 10-27, 2020.

The program offers participants three-weeks of intensive online study, preparation, and performance of opera. At the end of the three weeks, young artists will get a chance to present original video recordings of arias.

The program will be led by conductor Peter Szep, director Judith Barnes, and pianist / coach Felix Jarrar. There will also be masterclasses with such major figures as Anthony Roth Costanzo, Francesca Mondanaro, Margi Sharp Douglas, and Deborah Wright Houston.

Szep and Barnes ran the program in 2019. This is Jarrar’s first time being involved in the program.

On a daily basis, participants will engage in coaching on a wide range of subjects including musicianship, repertoire, style, languages, performance techniques and practice, acting, intention, and communication, among others.
