Brooklyn Art Song Society Concludes 2018-19 Season With 3 World Premieres

The Brooklyn Art Song Society will finish off its 2018-19 season with three world premieres and three New York premieres.

The concert set for June 7 at the Brooklyn Historical Society will feature sopranos Kristina Bachrach and Marnie Breckenridge alongside baritones Edward Park and Jorell Williams; Breckenridge and Park will be making their Brooklyn Art Song Society debuts. Michael Brofman, Michael Djupstrom, and Dmitri Dover will play at the piano while Dave Eggar will perform the cello.

The three New York premieres include Djupstrom’s “Oars in Water,” David Ludwig’s “Songs from the Bleeding Pines,” and Libby Larsen’s “Pharaoh Songs. As for the world premieres, audiences will experience Herschel Garfein’s “Rides,” James Matheson’s “Pessoa Songs,” and Ludwig’s “Songs of the Spirit of Turpentine.

Matheson’s “Pessoa Songs” was commissioned by the Brooklyn Art Song Society and the composer is set to have a pre-concert talk about his work.
