Bronx Opera to Present Weill & Ira Gershwin’s ‘Lady in the Dark’

Bronx Opera is set to present “Lady in the Dark” starting on Jan. 28, 2022.

The production, which runs through Feb. 5, 2022 at the Lovinger Theatre at Lehman College in New York City, will be conducted by Michael Spierman and Eric Kramer and directed by Eric Lamp and Benjamin Spierman.

The role of Liza will be shared by Elizabeth Treat and Perri di Christina, while Alonzo Lopez and Wil Kellerman will interpret the role of Charley Johnson. As Russell Paxton, audiences will see Jeremy Lopez and Vince Gover.
Jeremy Moore and Miguel Pedroza will take turns as Randy Curtis . Others in the cast include Sarah Marguerite, Tiernan Chase, Leslie Swanson, Ben Joyer, Muir Ingliss, Samatha Lax, Sophie Thompson, Erin Rose, Shanelle Woods.

The opera by Kurt Weill and Ira Gershwin originally premiered back in 1941 with Gertrude Lawrence and Danny Kaye headlining the cast. It tells the story of Liza Elliott, a successful fashion magazine owner with numerous suitors who seeks out her psychiatrist for help. She then goes on a journey through dreams to discover the source of her unhappiness.

Later this season, the company will present “Dialogues of the Carmelites.”
