Petr Štědroň has been appointed as the new Director of the Brno National Theatre.

He will begin his tenure on August 1, 2028, and will succeed Martin Glaser when he takes over as Director of the National Theatre in Prague.

The company also announced that Jakub Klecker will be Brno National Theatre’s next Music Director.

The Mayor of Brno, Markéta Vaňková, said, “Given that Director Martin Glaser will lead the National Theatre in Prague from August 2028, we had the opportunity to select his successor well in advance. All applicants have demonstrated high competence. I would like to thank Director Glaser for the high level he has taken our largest and internationally awarded theatre to. I wish the new Director, Mr. Petr Štědroň, a successful return to Brno and that he succeeds in developing the NdB in accordance with his vision.”

Glaser added, “I am glad that the commission selected and the Brno City Council decided to appoint a respected theatre artist with a renowned team to head the National Theatre Brno. Together, they will certainly bring valuable impulses to the theatre. Because Petr Štědroň declared in his concept that he wants to continue our work in an evolutionary way, which makes me very happy. Therefore, I believe that the handover of the theatre will go smoothly and I will be as helpful as possible, as will all members of my team.”

Regarding his new appointment, Štědroň noted, “I greatly appreciate the trust that the selection committee has placed in me. I would like to continue the work of director Martin Glaser and his team. I want to make the National Theatre Brno a key player in national cultural events and develop top-notch performing arts, the perception of the strong social role of theatre, and deepen foreign cooperation.”
