Bregenz Festival to Present Festival Days in August

Bregenz Festival will showcase the Festival Days event in August, featuring several vocal and orchestral works. For the purpose of this article we will focus only on the vocal works.

“Alles Wieder Gut” will spotlight bass-baritone Florian Boesch singing romantic art songs from Franz Schubert to Gustav Mahler, in a staging by the Swedish video designer Jonas Dahlberg. East Tyrolean Musicbanda Franui will accompany Boesch in the performance.

The concert by the Vorarlberg Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductor Enrique Mazzola will showcase soprano Mélissa Petit. Petit will will sing the “Songs from the Auvergne (Chants d’Auvergne)” by Joseph Canteloube. The program will also include Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony.

Soprano Anna Princeva will perform Verdi’s arias with the reduced St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra. Enrique Mazzola will conduct.

Concert at the KUB – Vocal distancing – Live!” will present sopranos Hanna Herfurtner and Olivia Stahn,  contralto Amélie Saadia, tenor Tim Karweick, and baritone Martin Gerke.

Lee Santana will play the massive 14-string lute baroque instrument Theorbo. Hanna Herfurtner’s ensemble will perform a program featuring works by Claudio Monteverdi, Orlando di Lasso, Catherine Lamb, Carlo Gesualdo, and Sidney Corbett.

Musik & Poesie – love in Italy” will feature soprano Anna El-Khashem, and baritone Johannes Kammler. Rita Kaufmann will be at the piano. The program will include songs by Strauss and Wolf.

Finally, the world premiere of Opera buffa “Impresario Dotcom” will star Zeynep Buyraç as Dotcom, Christoph Pohl as Conte Lasca, Hagen Matzeit as Orfeo, Eva Bodorová as Olympia, Terezia Kružliaková as Carmen, Adriana Kučerova as Violetta, and Simeon Esper as Tamino.

The opera has been commissioned by the Bregenz Festival and the Slovak National Theatre, Bratislava Version for Bregenz 2020. “Impresario Dotcom” is Ľubica Čekovská’s contemporary opera buffa with the libretto by Laura Olivi based on the comedy by Carlo Goldoni. The work has been shortened for the performance by the composer and the production team.

Christopher Ward will conduct the Vorarlberg Symphony Orchestra.
