By Operawire Staff

The Bregenzer Festspiele has announced its 2020 season, featuring a lineup of opera and vocal performances. Running from July 22, 2020, to August 23, the festival will be celebrating its 75th anniversary with a diverse and ambitious program.

Among the operatic works are Verdi’s “Rigoletto”. Opening July 23, this popular production, directed by Philipp Stolzi and conducted by Enrique Mazzola, will see 28 performances through the 2020 season.

Kicking off the festival one day prior to “Rigoletto” will be Arrigo Boito’s historical opera “Nero.” This rare work will be directed by Olivier Tambsoi, with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Dirk Kaftan.

The final week of the festival will see a performance of Joseph Haydn’s “Armida,” by the students of the  Bregenz Opera Studio.

The festival will feature the world premiere of an opera it has commissioned from composer L’ubica Cekovska, who has adapted Carlo Goldoni’s comedic play “The Impresario from Smyrna” into a modern opera buffa titled “Impresario Dotcom.”
