‘Breaking the Waves,’ ‘Celebrating RBG’s 88th Birthday’ Headline Opera Philadelphia’s Spring Streaming Slate

Opera Philadelphia has announced new programming for its digital channel.

First up, the company will be presenting the 2016 premiere production of Missy Mazzoli and Royce Vavrek’s “Breaking the Waves.” The presentation is in collaboration with Los Angeles Opera. The opera starred Kiera Duffy as Bess McNeill alongside John Moore, Eve Gigliotti, David Portillo, and Zachary James, among others.

Streaming Dates: March 12 – May 31, 2021. 

The company will stream “For the Love of Opera; Celebrating RBG’s 88th birthday” via its Facebook Live. The event will star Joshua Blue, Norman Garrett, Michelle Rice, Ashley Marie Robillard, and others. The concert is presented in partnership with the National Museum of American Jewish History and the Herb Albert School of Music’s Lowell Milke Center for Music of American Jewish Experience.

Streaming Dates: March 15-May 31, 2021

The company also announced that its production of “El Cimarrón,” which was scheduled for a March streaming premiere, would be postponed due to travel and gathering restrictions. The company will revisit the production in a future season.
