Bourgie Hall to Present Concert with Philippe Sly & Jana Miller
By Nicolas QuirogaBourgie Hall will a concert showcase featuring soprano Jana Miller and bass-baritone Philippe Sly on May 29 and 30.
The duo will be accompanied by pianist Jean Marchand in two Lieder cycles composed by Schumann, “Frauenliebe und -leben” and “Dichterliebe,” both considered an ode to femininity, love, and poetry.
Also on the program will be, Schumann’s “Kinderszenen” for piano.
Sly, one of the winners of the Met Opera’s National Council Auditions, has become a major international opera presence, appearing with such renowned companies as Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and the Opéra National de Paris.
Meanwhile, Miller is a Berlin-based soprano who was winner of the John Newmark Singing Award; she was also a silver medalist in the Eckhardt-Gramatté and Hèléne Roberge Music competitions.
Finally, Marchand has performed at the Lincoln Center in New York, in the series Performances in San Francisco, and on the National Public Radio. He has also appeared with the Metropolitan Orchestra and L’Orchester Symphonique de Laval, among others.
Audiences unable to attend live in person will get a chance to watch the concert via streaming between June 5 through 19.
