Boston Lyric Opera to Stream ‘Norma’ Dress Rehearsal

By Francisco Salazar

The Boston Lyric Opera will stream a recording of Bellini’s “Norma” from its final dress rehearsal.

The company announced that the opera will be streamed starting Sunday March 29 at 3 p.m. The recording was captured on March 11 by 99.5 WCRB Classical Radio Boston and its Grammy Award-winning Lead Sound Engineer Antonio Oliart Ros.

The recording is set to include acclaimed soprano Elena Stikhina in her title-role debut, tenor Jonathan Burton as Pollione, bass-baritone Alfred Walker as Oroveso, and mezzo-soprano Sandra Piques Eddy as Adalgisa. BLO’s Orchestra and Chorus are conducted by Music Director David Angus.

“Norma” was set to open on March 13 but was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The company also canceled its production of Handel’s “Giulio Cesare,” which was scheduled to open in May.

The 2020-21 season opens in September with “Madama Butterfly.”
