Boston Lyric Opera to Present ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ with Brittany Renee
By Francisco SalazarThe Boston Lyric Opera is set to present André Previn’s opera adaptation of “A Streetcar Named Desire.”
The opera will be performed at the Emerson Cutler Majestic Theatre in a co-production with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis for three performances between Nov. 5 and 8, 2026.
The production will be conducted by Daniela Candillari in a production by legendary soprano Patricia Racette.
In a statement, Racette said, “I want the audience to have a seat in Blanche’s mind,” she says, “to feel the heat, the claustrophobia, and the emotional intensity with which the story unfolds. It helps that André Previn’s score is magnificent…it has a little bit of everything, from jazz to classical shadings and traditional New Orleans music.”
The cast will include Brittany Renee as Blanche DuBois, Thomas Glass as Stanley Kowalski, Angela Yam as Stella Kowalski, Brenton Ryan as Mitch, Erica Brookhyser as Eunice Hubbell, Juliette Kaoudji as the Flower Seller, Neal Ferreira as Steve Hubbell, Suowei Wu as the Young Collector, Jessica Jacobs as the Nurse, David J. Castillo as The Doctor, and Ricky Lee Owens, Jr. as Pablo.
