Boston Lyric Opera to Present a New Version of Aucoin & Ruhl’s ‘Eurydice’
By David SalazarBoston Lyric Opera is set to present a new production of Matthew Aucoin and Sarah Ruhl’s “Eurydice.”
Opening on March 1 and running for two weeks through the 10 at the Huntington Theatre, the opera will be presented in a new orchestral arrangement by Aucoin; this is the first time this version of the opera gets a showcase.
Audiences will experience Sydney Mancasola in the title role. She is joined by Elliot Madore as Orpheus. Other cast members include Mark S. Doss, Nicholas Kelliher, David Portillo, Maggie Finnegan, Alexis Peart, Neal Ferreira, and Junhan Choi.
Doug Fitch directs the production and designs the sets and costumes. Jorge Arroyo is the lighting designer.
“I fell in love with Sarah’s poetic adaptation…so much so that a line from the libretto (‘All I have I give for love’) anchors our season materials. Matt’s score is stunning, and I was convinced it would shine for a chamber ensemble,” said Boston Lyric Opera Director and CEO Bradley Vernatter per an official press release issued by the company.
