The Boston Lyric Opera recently broke ground on the renovation of its new Opera + Community Studios located at Midway Artist Studios in Boston’s Fort Point neighborhood.

The new arts space will be a 16,000-square-foot place where artists and community members from the neighborhood and across the city will create, connect, and collaborate.

In a statement, the company’s General Director and CEO, Bradley Vernatter, said it will be a gathering place for the more than 800 artists and creative professionals it employs each year, as well as a space for education activities, community gatherings, performances, and more.

According to the General Director, more than $10 million was raised toward the project’s $11 million goal, and the space is expected to be completed in March 2026.
